Recipient of the 2016 Lieutenant Governor of BC Award and 2015 Canadian Interiors Best of Canada Award.
Inspired by West Coast Modernism, the architect – Acton Ostry – designed the light-infused atrium to connect various wings of the existing school for the renovation of this prestigious all-girls private school in Vancouver.
Stella’s adjustable stand-offs ensure that all the focus is on the architecture and not on potential unsightly shims that might be added to accommodate for out-of-line concrete. Our “Stella Original” stand-offs offer +/- 6mm [1/4″] adjustment to work with unexpected site conditions.
A glass detail you may not have noticed…as part of the donor recognition program, the names of thousands of famous women (as selected by the students) are screen-printed onto the glass panels that surround the open atrium.
Our VUE bi-folding door in a 3L3R configuration was also used to open the space up further in another area of the school (not shown in photos).
“Junior students pass through the sky-lit atrium crossroads, which features several terraced social and informal study spaces, on their way to other areas of the existing school.
The central atrium space connects the Senior School to the existing north and south wings through a generous, day-lit concourse, creating dynamic interactions throughout the school day, as well as a unified circulation system for the campus as a whole.
Finish materials are simple and spare with a palette of textured concrete, wood, glass and stone used throughout the facility.”
