A unique challenge called for a one-of-a-kind solution – introducing the Glass Jewel Box.

The Challenge – Penthouse rooftops’ stair access needed to be enclosed but the enclosure had to be as “transparent” as possible due to city view cone requirements.

Stella worked in close collaboration with the architect to sketch out numerous possible support methods – a true team effort.

Key notes about the glass hardware support system we created:

• Near-invisible custom hardware supports glass enclosures (photos show one of the 4 distinguished penthouses/rooftops on this project)
• Developed completely in Solidworks to ensure complete alignment of parts and assemblies.
• Ensured the glass and hardware could be assembled on site like a Meccano set
  (for those unfamiliar with “Meccano sets”, a completely straightforward and headache-free assembly by a certain large Swedish furniture company would be another comparable to the ease of our parts’ assembly on this project).
• Unique bolting system was built into the sealed glass units (strong coordination with our local glass fabricator – Vitrum Glass Industries).
• Fastening system designed to accommodate seismic movement and wind loading conditions

Now complete and stunning!
At Stella, we call these enclosures the “jewel boxes” of Vancouver’s West Side, allowing their occupants (and those around them) to enjoy uninterrupted spectacular ocean views.
